Baptism makes one a member of the Body of Christ and prepares one for the reception of the other sacraments.

The Hindmarsh-Findon Parish offers Private Baptism* for your child at:

• Sacred Heart Church, Hindmarsh every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the Month at 10:15am and at
• Our Lady of the Manger Church, Findon every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the Month at 12:15pm.

Alternatively, Baptism is also able to be celebrated within Mass at any of our Mass Centres as follows:

• Within Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Hindmarsh on Sundays at 9am.
• Within Mass at Our Lady of the Manger Church, Findon on Sundays at 11am or Saturday evenings at 6pm.

*Please note when there are multiple requests for the same date, we can accommodate up to 3 children for Baptisms on any given weekend.

To allow time for preparation, the request for Baptism should be made six weeks before the preferred date.

If you live outside our parish, we suggest it is courteous to seek the consent of your local Parish Priest to have your child Baptised outside of your local parish. It is preferred but not essential that baptisms be celebrated within your own parish which enables you to be supported by your own parish community.

Naming and Presentation Mass

As part of the Baptismal ceremony, families are invited to present their child to the community at a Sunday Mass, preferably the week prior to your child’s Baptism.

Baptism Preparation

You will be required to attend one preparation baptismal session.

Godparents

The Godparents’ role is to support the child in the development of the Catholic faith. Therefore, it is a requirement that one Godparent must be a confirmed Catholic over the age of 16 years.
